In the spring of 2019, the Liberty & Ethics Center became a host to an Intercollegiate Studies Institute book club. That semester's book was The Coddling of the American Mind by Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt. Students selections for subsequent selections were Alexis de Toqueville's Democracy in America and Why Nations Fail by Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson.

The reading group has been reconstituted as the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) Reading Group led by Dr. Joseph Steineger of the Department of Philosophy and Religion. In the Spring 2023 semester, the group won the 2023 PPE League Competition at Ottawa University.

The Spring 2024 competition is entitled, The Future of Money.  The current team is coached by Dr. Steineger, Dr. Dale Walton, and institute director Jim Mosquera, who owns a body of work on this topic.

Those interested in joining the group should contact Dr. Joseph Steineger, jsteineger@lindenwood.edu

“The commercial was such a unique way to learn and teach about Rule of Law, and overall a great opportunity”

“I came into this club pretty fresh in terms of knowledge regarding philosophy, politics, and economics. I sat in via teams for my first meeting to see what it was all about, and I was blown away by the discussions we had and how welcoming everyone was...Being a commuter, I’m not super involved at Lindenwood but I gave PPE club a try, just to be involved in SOMETHING. Now I know that there’s a wealth of untapped knowledge to be gained from this club, and it is the highlight of my week.”

"Working cooperatively to create a strategy for the competition as well as on the creation of the PPE commercial was very enjoyable and stimulating. Great fun and team building."
