The Future of Cryptocurrencies

Join us for a panel discussion with David Andolfatto of the St. Louis Fed and Lawrence White of George Mason University, who will discuss the current and future roles of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Tether.

The event will start promptly at 7:00 and will begin with a moderated panel discussion, which will be followed by a Q&A session.
​
Audience members will be able to submit questions during the panel discussion via the chat feature in Zoom.
​
Open discussion and audience participation are hallmarks of the Langenberg Speaker Series, so the Q&A session will make up a significant part of the program, which will end at 8:30.

Dr. David Andolfatto
David Andolfatto serves as a senior vice president in the Research Division at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. He was a professor of economics at the University of Waterloo (1991 to 2000) and Simon Fraser University (2000 to 2009) before joining the Fed in July 2009.

Dr. Andolfatto has published several articles in leading economic journals; including the American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy and the Journal of Economic Theory. He has been invited as a visiting scholar to central banks around the world, including the Bank of Canada, the Bank of Japan, La Banca de la Republica (Colombia) and De Nederlandsche Bank, along with a number of Federal Reserve banks. In 2009, he was awarded the prestigious Bank of Canada Fellowship Award for his contributions in the area of money, banking and monetary policy.

Dr. Andolfatto is a native of Vancouver, Canada, and received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Western Ontario in 1994.
Dr. Lawrence White
Lawrence H. White is a Professor of Economics at George Mason University, and a Distinguished Senior Fellow of the F. A. Hayek Program for Advanced Study in Philosophy, Politics and Economics in the Mercatus Center at GMU. He previously taught at the University of Missouri - St. Louis, the University of Georgia, and New York University.
Professor White specializes in the theory and history of banking and money. He is the author of The Clash of Economic Ideas (2012), The Theory of Monetary Institutions (1999), Free Banking in Britain (2nd ed., 1995), and Competition and Currency (1989). He is the editor of Renewing the Search for a Monetary Constitution (2015) and other volumes. His articles on monetary theory and banking history have appeared in the American Economic Review, the Journal of Economic Literature, the Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, and other leading professional journals. In 2014 he received the Adam Smith Award of the Association for Private Enterprise Education.

Professor White received his M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from UCLA, and his A.B. in economics from Harvard University.
